Rebar Price Downs in Tokyo, Osaka

Concrete reinforcing steel bar market price decreased in Osaka and Tokyo. The price decreased by 3,000 yen to 65,000 yen per tonne for base size at direct shipment transaction from the makers to the users around Osaka, which was the first drop in around 8 months. The price decreased by 2,000 yen to 62,000 yen from previous week around Tokyo.

The market price increased by total 15,000 yen per tonne from December 2010 to April around Osaka. The market price increased when local makers targeted 70,000 yen of selling price. However, the price decreased when the demand slowed after the major earthquake.

The rebar market price is around 5,000 yen per tonne lower than recent peak in May. The demand slows when construction activity slows with some cancel and delay in building activity after the quake. Some rebar transaction price is less than 60,000 yen. The makers’ order receipt decreased to 112,000 tonnes in May compared with 161,000 tonnes in April and 172,000 tonnes in March.

The dealers’ selling price is around 68,000 yen per tonne for the sales from the inventory around Tokyo, which was 1,000 yen lower than previous week. The market price could decrease more when ferrous scrap market price is still lower level than before.
