Crude steel production by 14 electric furnace makers in the Kanto region in June 2023 is expected to fall 2.6% y/y and 3.4% m/m to around 362,200 tons. Deformed steel bars, mainly base size, have been stagnant for both large-scale and small- and medium-scale construction projects. Shaped steel production is also on a downward trend, with the exception of some products. Billet exports are also expected to remain at low levels due to the sluggish Asian market, and both y-o-y and m/m forecasts are negative.
