Toyota Tsusho announced on December 12 that it will jointly produce lithium hydroxide in Fukushima with Orocobre Limited, an Australian lithium resources development company. A new joint venture, Toyotsu Lithium, was established in October 2018.
The construction of production facilities is scheduled to begin in the first half of 19 years, with the aim of starting production in the first half of 2021. The production capacity of lithium hydroxide is planned to be 10,000 tons a year. This will accelerate the response to lithium demand expansion accompanying the electrification of automobiles. The total project cost is about 9 billion yen.
