NSSM to Produce Ultra High Tensile Strength Steel in the United States

Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal makes an additional investment to AM/NS Calvert, the joint venture for automobile steel sheet with ArcelorMittal in the United States, start to produce Ultra high tensile strength steel in the field. The firm re-create heat treating equipment at a cost of around 10 billion yen by the end of 2016, and consolidate the system to produce 1180 MPa level steel sheets in and after 2017. And the firm responds to demand for higher level steels because automobile company starts to use higher level high tensile strength steel for weight saving in respond to tightening of regulations including fuel consumption.
