NSSM Cooperates in Salt Removal for the Tsunami Damaged Agricultural Land Using Converter Slag Fertilizer

Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal, Tokyo University of Agriculture, Soma city and JA Soma announced on 8th the actual proof plan to utilize converter slag fertilizer extensively at agricultural land in Soma city Fukushima prefecture that hit by tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Salt removal effect by converter slag fertilizer has been demonstrated at 1.7 hectare of paddy fields, and applicable fields will be expanded to around 50 hectare from fiscal 2013. Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal provides converter slag fertilizer for free. About 900,000 tons of iron and steel slag from Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal are used to post-quake recovery, and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal will contribute to reconstruction through new intended purpose development and suggestion, from now.
