JFE Steel, Seikei Steel Pipe Develop High Strength, Toughness Column

JFE Steel announced on Tuesday the firm and Seikei Steel Pipe developed high strength and toughness cold rolled press forming square pipe, P column G385T with 550 Newton per a square millimeters. They improved the toughness of the corner parts. They got certification of Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in February. They also got certification of Building Center of Japan for design by using 385N class of press column and Non-Brittle Fracture Welding (NBFW) in April, which allows lower weight of the material.

JFE Steel contributes to the column through high performance flat rolled steel supply by using Super-OLAC cooling system. Seikei Steel Pipe developed the G385T by improving the cold press technology. The material allows around 20% of column weight reduction compared with traditional materials including G385 column in certain applications.

JFE Steel and Seikei Steel Pipe have sold total 13,000 tonnes of G385 column. They developed G385T by improving toughness of the corner parts. They expect the product is used for high rise building and major buildings.
