Japan Raw Steel Output Rises by 7.6% in April

Japanese raw steel output increased by 7.6% to 9.072 million tonnes in April from a year earlier, which increased for 2 months in a row, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Monday. Firm domestic automobile demand supported the steel production. The daily raw steel output increased by 0.5% to 302,400 tonnes from March.

The production increased by 7.8% to 6.823 million tonnes for converter steel in April from a year earlier, which increased for the first time in 8 months. The electric furnace steel output increased by 6.9% to 2.25 million tonnes, which increased for 10 months in a row.

The carbon steel output increased by 3.0% to 6.874 million tonnes in April from a year earlier, which increased for 2 months in a row. The special steel output increased by 24.8% to 2.198 million tonnes, which increased for 3 months in a row.

The output of hot rolled steel products increased by 2.9% to 7.704 million tonnes in April from a year earlier, which increased for 2 months in a row. The output of carbon steel products increased by 0.5% to 6.013 million tonnes. The output decreased by 5.4% to 1.541 million tonnes for carbon steel long products, which decreased for the first time in 7 months. The output of carbon steel flat products increased by 2.3% to 4.392 million tonnes, which increased for 2 months in a row. The output of special steel products increased by 12.4% to 1.691 million tonnes, which increased for 2 months in a row.
