Seikei Steel Pipe to Hike Press Column Price by 10,000 yen/t

Japanese major press column maker, Seikei Steel Pipe announced on Thursday the firm increases the selling price of press column by 10,000 yen per tonne for new order in May. The firm loses money at the current price level for some order. The firm eyes additional price hike depending on the market.

The firm tries to improve the price level to secure the sustainability. The press column demand was 170,000 tonnes in fiscal 2011 ended March 2012, which is much lower than the peak of 280,000 tones. Seikei Steel Pipe operates at 60% of the capacity. The price level decreased by 7,000 yen per tonne for second half of fiscal 2011 from the first half.

The firm expects higher cost when integrated steel makers increase the materials price impacting on the press column operation. The firm tries to improve the price level as leading company in Japanese market.
