Nippon Steel & Sumikin Metal Products Resumes Sendai Plant

Nippon Steel & Sumikin Metal Products resumed the all of operation at Sendai plant after damage by the major earthquake in March 2011. The firm completed repair of 16 inches line. The firm can operate at full capacity with 2 lines including operating 6 inches line in June.

The plant adds automated roll adjustment system with to 16 inches line in later the year. The plant increases the line’s production capacity by 50% by increasing roll chances. The firm tries to improve the delivery flexibility.

The plant is sole plant for square steel pipe in Tohoku or northeast Japan area. The firm contributes to rebuilding activity for damaged areas by the earthquake while the firm improves the competitiveness.

The plant restarted 6 inches line operation in August 2011 after the plant gained resumed power supply. With the resumption of 16 inches line, the plant improves the supply ability and delivery service.

The plant supplies steel column in the area when the demand increases after the earthquake due to the toughness for earthquake and Tsunami. The plant supplies column and square pipe stably for rebuilding of the area.
