Mixed Dysprosium Price Trend in China, Japan

Chinese dysprosium price trend gap gets clear between domestic price and export price. The price is rebounding in China but the export price would keep decreasing for the largest dysprosium trade partner of Japan and other countries even though dysprosium is produced only in southern China.

Dysprosium oxide market price in China rebounded to around 5,000 yuan per kilogram from the bottom of less than 4,000 yuan in late March. But the export price is around US$ 1,250 per kg for Japan, which is 16% lower than the price in late March. The price is less than half of the peak in last summer but keeps decreasing.

In China, major dysprosium makers repurchase overstocked material at higher price from market to support the price. The price is also supported by better operation rate by magnet alloy makers

Japanese users have little appetite for dysprosium when they built the inventory in 2011. One rare metal trader around Tokyo sees Japanese users would keep the purchase volume at low level for 2-3 months.
