Sumikura Purchases Steel Processing Machine Plant

Shizuoka based flat rolled steel processing machine maker, Sumikura purchased a plant in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka. The firm succeeded business from Sumikura Machine, which filed bankruptcy in June 2011. Chinese flat steel processing machine maker acquired 100% share of the new company with 300 million yen of capital. Sumikura targets 500 million yen of sales in 2012 and 3 billion yen in 2015.

Sumikura Machine’s staff established Sumikura in September 2011. The firm launched operation in December based on former company’s brand and intellectual property. The new company plans to increase employees from 20 to 50 by the end of 2012.

The parent company provides slitter mainly for can makers while the firm supplies machinery for processors in electronics and automobile industry. The firm export around 30% of the sales for Europe and other areas. The firm with around 300 of employees posted around 1.5 billion yen of sales in 2011.

The firm supported Sumikura to get the technology for automotive steel processing machine. The parent company tries to develop automotive steel processing machinery as core business based on Sumikura’s technology. The parent company will make machines in China and Japan depending on required quality and cost. Sumikura launches commercial operation of the plant in June.
