Japan Electric Wire Export Drops by 7.4% in 2011

Japanese export decreased by 7.4% to FOB 238.9 billion yen for electric wire, electric cable, optical fiber and cable in 2011 from 2010 based on surveys by Ministry of Finance and Japanese Electric Wire & Cable Makers’ Association. The import decreased by 2% to CIF 472.6 billion yen. The export decreased for all items other than optical fiber cable due to historical high yen exchange rate and economy slowdown in offshore countries.

Japanese cable import decreased by 7.8% for transport machine in 2011 from 2010. Japanese wire harness makers’ transplants reduced the shipping for Japan. The import decreased by 25.3% to 13.8 billion yen from Thailand.

Three major trading partners for Japanese electric wire trade kept the positions each for the total export and the import in 2011 as 2010. Japanese export decreased by 4.5% to 61.2 billion yen for China. The export decreased by 2.6% to 22.6 billion yen for USA and by 16.4% to 19 billion yen for Hong Kong. The import decreased by 4.2% to 229.4 billion yen from China. The import decreased by 5.3% to 79 billion yen from Vietnam and by 0.9% to 55.8 billion yen from Philippines.
