METI Requires Exemption form Indonesia Cold Rolled Steel AD

Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) sought last week Komite Anti Dumping Indonesia (KADI) exempting antidumping (AD) order on import of cold rolled flat steel from Japan. METI tries to avoid AD order on Japanese cold rolled flat steel, which is mainly used for automobile and home appliance.

KADI started AD investigation on imported cold rolled flat steel from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China and Vietnam in June 2011. KADI will announce preliminarily determination as early as in May.

METI seeks Ministry of Industry in Indonesia exempting AD order on Japanese cold rolled flat steel import at steel dialogue in February. METI tried the exemption again at the timing of new chairman appointment by KADI.

About 75% of Japanese cold rolled flat steel is used for automobile and home appliance in Indonesia. Members of automobile industry and parts makers’ association in Indonesia also seek the exemption when Japanese material is essential to make Japanese makers’ vehicle. KADI will review AD order by checking difference between Japanese and Indonesian material.
