Dongkuk Steel to Launch New Rebar Mill ahead Plan

South Korean Dongkuk Steel will start test operation of new concrete reinforcing bar rolling mill of Incheon plant earlier than originally plan on July 1. The firm finished about 95% of the mill construction. The Seoul based electric furnace steel maker will stop old mill after the operation of new mill get stable to improve productivity. The firm targets more efficient integrated operation from eco-arc electric furnace.

Dongkuk Steel started 190 billion won No.3 rebar rolling mill with annual 1.2 million tonnes of Incheon plant in April 2011. The steel maker will start commercial production of the mill as early as possible to make high value added rebar with maximum 57 millimeters diameter and 800 mega pascal tension strength.

Dongkuk Steel will stop annual 700,000 tonnes No.1 rebar rolling mill after operation of No.3 mill gets stable. The company increases capacity of No.2 mill by 100,000 tonnes to 800,000 tonnes and total rolling capacity of Incheon plant increases to 2 million tonnes compared with current 1.4 million tonnes.

Dongkuk Steel stopped two aged 30 tonne electric furnaces of Incheon plant after the start of eco-arc furnace with annual 1.2 million tonnes capacity in October 2010. Steelmaking capacity increased by 600,000 tonnes to 2.2 million tonnes.
