JFE Steel and Marubeni Itochu Win Line Pipe Orders

JFE Steel and Marubeni Itochu Steel announced on Monday they accepted orders for high quality UOE steel pipe at total 250,000 tonnes for two major overseas One is Wheatstone project, Australia’s largest resource development project, and the other is Jack & St. Malo Oil development project in the Gulf of Mexico. The order totally values near 30 billion yen. The companies’ past supply performances and high-end production technology were appreciated by the users.

For Wheatstone project, they accepted the order for UOE pipes, DNV 450 grade with 44-inch outer diameter, at 150,000 tonnes. The shipment term is from January 2012 to February 2013.

This is one of the largest resource developing projects in Australia, operated by Chevron to construct two LNG plants and a gas plant on the site 12 km west from Onslow on the Pilbara Coast. Gas will be transported by the pipeline from an offshore processing platform 225 km off the coast to the onshore facilities. LNG shipments are scheduled in 2016. JFE Steel’s UOE pipes will be used for the 225 km pipeline to transport gas to the LNG plant at Ashburton Noth.

For Jack & St. Malo Oil development project, JFE Steel and Marubeni Itochu supply UOE pipes of X 65 grade with 24-inch outer diameter and 450 MPa of yield strength at about 100,000 tonnes. The shipment term is February-August 2012.

The project is operated by Amberjack Pipe Line Company at the site approximately 450 kilometers south from New Orleans. The UOE pipes will be used for 223 km pipeline laid at 2,100 m sea depth.
