Nichia Steel to Launch Thai Steel Wire Making JV

Nichia Steel announced on Monday the firm establishes Thai wire plating joint venture with Siam Industrial Wire of Thailand. The joint venture, TSN Wires builds plant with annual 36,000 tonnes of output capacity in Rayong for 890 million bahts starting operation in July 2013. Nichia Steel tries to expand the offshore business when the firm launches Chinese operation in 2012.

Siam Industrial Wire controls 60% of the joint venture with 40% share by Nichia Steel. Siam Industrial Wire’s president assumes the president of the joint venture while Nichia Steel sends a director for the vice president.

The venture expends 700 million bahts for construction and facility on 56,000 square meters of land in next space of Siam Industrial Wire. The joint venture makes galvanizing wire, steel wire and 10% aluminium and zinc coating wire with 6 drawing lines, a plating line and a strand making line. The firm supplies 50% of the production to Thailand while the firm exports the balance for other Southeast Asian countries.

Siam Industrial Wire is wholly owned subsidiary of NatSteel belonged to Tata Steel group. The wire maker makes pre-stressed concrete wire while Tata Steel group makes plating wire and PC wire in India and China.
