Secondary Al Alloy Makers Agree Al Scrap Hike in Tokyo

Secondary aluminium alloy makers and aluminium scrap dealers around Tokyo almost agreed in aluminium scrap price hike by average 5-7 yen per kilogram for high grade scrap, by average 5 yen per for low grade scrap and by average 6-7 yen for used beverage can (UBC). Local alloy makers’ purchasing prices increased to 156-161 yen per kg for new cutting aluminium scrap, 127-132 yen for casted aluminium machine scrap, 128-133 yen for aluminium sash scrap and 111-116 yen for UBC at scrap dealers’ sites without freight.

Most scrap dealers tried to raise the selling prices by 10 yen per kg for both high and low grade scrap. Domestic primary aluminium market price, one of the indicators, surged by around 15 yen per kg in a month to reflect higher primary aluminium market price at overseas and weaker yen exchange rate against US dollar.

Secondary aluminium alloy makers showed strong disapprovals against the wide-range price hike since the alloy makers have failed to increase their alloy selling prices. One major alloy maker said they haven’t passed previous cost upsurge for aluminium scrap, fuels and additive materials on the alloy selling prices fully.
