Metal One to Construct Motor Core Processing Center in India

Metal One, Japanese major steel trading house, announced on Tuesday the firm constructed a motor core processing center in Pune, India. The processing center was built inside Mahindra Steel Service Center, which is a joint coil center between Metal One and Mahindra Group, Indian financial combine. Metal One aims to cover the demand for motors applied to home appliances. Initial processing and sales volume is planned at 12,000 tonnes per year. The investment is approximately 825 million yen.

Motor cores are equipped inside compressors for air conditioners and refrigerators as well as for motors applied to home laundry machines and electric fans. Home appliance sales have steadily increased in India by tremendous personal consumptions. Metal One decided establishment of the motor core processing center to meet the orders from electric appliance makers since there are very few integrated processing centers with slitting, pressing, annealing and aluminum die-cast processes in India.

The center has a slitter line, a 300-tonne press machine, a 125-tonne press machine, an annealing line and an aluminum die-cast processing machine. The commercial operation started on February 28. Metal One would install additional processing machines along with the demand condition.

Mahindra Steel Service Center was established by Metal One and Mahindra Inter Trade in 1993. The capital fund is approximately 231 million yen, 61% invested by Mahindra and 39% by Metal One. The center has two sites in India and processes electric steel sheet and general steel sheet with levelers and slitters.
