Nippon Steel’s Muroran Works Estimates 1.55MT Crude Steel Output for F2011

Nippon Steel’s Muroran iron works estimates its crude steel output to increase by 4% to 1.55 million tonnes for fiscal 2011 ending in March 2012 from the previous fiscal year. The production exceeded 400,000 tonnes for July-September 2011. Hot metal production approached 600,000 tonnes, the record high volume. Muroran iron works continues full operation. The works follows strong demand for special steel applied to automobiles. The works advances improvement of steel products quality and reduction of production cost while enhances development of new products.

The works is the domestic largest supply base of special steel bar and wire rod. The works produces special steel bar at 80,000 tonnes per month, wire rod at 50,000 tonnes and pig iron at about 10,000 tonnes as consignment production for Mitsubishi Steel Muroran. The works produces pig iron at about 2.3 million tonnes per year and crude steel at about 1.5 million tonnes. Mitsubishi Steel Muroran produces crude steel at about 600,000 tonnes. The works sells steel products to engine component, driving part and underbody parts.
