J-Power Systems Concludes TAA with Dubai’s HV/EHV Power Cable Maker

J-Power Systems (below JPS), which is Japanese high voltage (HV), extra high voltage (EHV) and ultra high voltage (UHV) power cable maker fifty-fifty controlled by Sumitomo Electric Industries and Hitachi Cable, announced on Monday the firm concluded a technical assistance agreement with Ducab High Voltage Systems (below Ducab HV), which is a HV/EHV power cable maker in Dubai, the UAE. JPS receives royalty payment from Ducab HV on the technical assistance. Ducab HV introduces state-of-the-art technologies to manufacture EHV power cables from JPS.

Ducab HV was established in 2010 jointly by Dubai Cable, the local major power cable maker, DEWA (Dubai Electricity & Water Authority) and ADEWA (Abu Dhabi Electricity & Water Authority). Dubai HV will manufacture 66-400 kV XLPE insulated power cables. Ducab HV held a completion ceremony for its 148-meter-high VCV (vertical continuous vulcanizer) tower at Dubai factory in November 2011. This is the most advanced VCV line which can manufacture the highest voltage XLPE cable in the Middle East. JPS will help Ducab HV to bring the VCV line into commercial operation.

Ducab HV’s output capacity is expected to meet all demand for HV/EHV power cables installed for energy infrastructures in the UAE and to have potentiality for the export in future. The sales target is AED 1 billion (approximately 20 billion yen). Along the technical assistance agreement, Ducab HV will send the staffs to JPS for practical manufacturing training while JPS will send the engineers to Ducab HV’s factory.
