Toyota Tsusho Establishes Car Recycling Joint Plant in China

Toyota Motor’s trading company, Toyota Tsusho Corporation announced on Wednesday the firm establishes an End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) recycling company in Chengdu, Sichuan Province of China. The recycling company will dismantle ELV into ferrous scrap, nonferrous scrap and components and sell these recycled materials in China. The processing capacity is 2,000-3,000 cars per month. The plant construction will start in spring of 2012 and complete in autumn of 2012.

Toyota Tsusho establishes the ELV recycling company in cooperation with Chengdu headed recycler and Japanese car dismantler, Showa Metal. The capital fund is 47 million yuan (approximately 600 million yen), 65% share is controlled by Chinese recycler company while 30% share is held by Toyota Tsusho Group and 5% by Showa Metal.

In China, ELV dismantlement is mainly hand working. It takes long lead time and environmental measures have not been organized fully yet. Meanwhile, ELV generation is expected to expand to 4.5 times or more in China toward 2020. More effective and environmental dismantlement is needed.
