Lowering Japan Ferrous Scrap Price

Japanese ferrous scrap price decreases additionally last week. Local electric furnace steel makers’ scrap purchase price decreased to around 30,000 yen per tonne for H2 grade when the dealers accelerate the liquidation of their inventory when they expect lower price. Tokyo Steel Manufacturing reduced the scrap purchase price by 500 yen on Friday after the reduction on Wednesday. Other makers could reduce the scrap purchase price.

Electric furnace steel makers around Tokyo pay 30,500-31,500 yen per tonne for H2 grade scrap. Most of the makers reduced the scrap purchase price by 500-1,000 yen on Friday. The makers have high level scrap inventory. The scrap shipping from Tokyo bay is firm for existing export order while the shipping is slow for western Japan.

Electric furnace steel makers around Osaka pay 30,000-30,500 yen per tonne for H2 grade scrap. A dealer source said JFE Steel’s West Japan works and other integrated steel makers stopped scrap purchase from the market and the move impacts on the market.
