Japan Copper Indicator Lowered to 620,000 Yen/t

JX Nippon Mining & Metals announced on Tuesday the firm lowered official electrolytic copper ingot selling price by 20,000 yen to 6200,000 yen per tonne for domestic shipment in January. The latest revision reflected downturn of offshore copper market prices and stronger yen exchange rate against US dollar. The monthly average would be 623,100 yen without any more revision within January, which is 16,900 yen lower than the previous average.

Copper settlement at London Metal Exchange (LME) was US$ 7,503 per tonne on January 9. The price was US$ 158 lower than the settlement along which JX Nippon Mining & Metals previously announced its copper selling price in early January. LME copper price was weakened by sharp inventory increase at Shanghai Futures Exchange and weaker euro trend against US dollar.

Telegraphic transfer selling rate of yen was 77.86 yen per US dollar on Tuesday. Yen strengthened by around 1 yen against US dollar compared with the end of 2011.
