The firm launches the new product in 2012 encouraging general contractors and other users to use the high performance steel.
Oji Steel produces wide flat bar with 50 joules of absorbed energy at Gunma plant compared with required minimum 27 joules under Japanese Industrial Standards. The firm developed flat bar with 70 joules or more of absorbed energy when the firm improved controlling of rolling and cooling. The firm now can make tougher flat bar with 100 joules of absorbed energy. High rise building construction needs higher toughness steel recent years.
