ITC Decides AD Abolishment on Japanese and Italian Steel Plate

International Trade Committee (ITC) of the U.S.A. announced on Monday ITC decided abolishment of anti-damping (AD) on Japanese and Italian steel plate along the result of sunset review, carried out every five years. ITC judged domestic steel makers aren’t impacted by Japanese and Italian plate imports. AD taxation on Japanese steel plate started in 2000. ITC had also decided AD abolishment on Japanese hot rolled steel sheet in May 2011 which had commenced in 1999. Japanese steel makers can diverse export business by U.S. AD termination.

U.S. Department of Commerce will formally announce the date of AD abolishment soon. AD taxation has been 59.12% on Japanese steel plate. AD measure commenced in 1999 and was prolonged by five years on and after December 6, 2005. The termination date seems to be set five years later from the continuation of AD.

Mr. Eiji Hayashida, chairman of Japan Iron & Steel Federation, made a statement on Tuesday Japanese steel industry welcomed ITC’s fair conclusion while required review and termination of other long-time AD taxation on Japanese steel products.

ITC this time reviewed AD on steel plate import from Japan, South Korea, Italy, India and Indonesia. ITC has also imposed compensating duty on steel plate import from India, Indonesia, South Korea and Italy. AD taxation and compensating duty are prolonged on three countries’ products other than Japan and Italy. Department of Commerce had judged AD measure should be continued on the five countries’ plate in March 2011, maximum 59.12% on Japanese plate.
