Yazaki to Expand HV/EV Charging Connectors Supply Network

Yazaki Corporation expands offshore production of charging connectors for plug in hybrid vehicle and electric vehicle. The firm starts the production in Europe and China in 2012 to establish 4 major production bases including existing Japan and Mexico. The firm makes the products in China for Japanese market and supplies the products European plant to local carmakers. The firm prepares for charging cable sets with charging circuit interrupt device (CCID) supply from Mexico to plug in hybrid vehicle and electric vehicle launched by Ford Motor in 2012.

The world largest automotive wire harness maker leads development and supply of charging connectors. The firm has almost 100% share for the connectors in Japanese electric vehicle market. The sales are more than 1 billion yen, of which major part is for Japanese market.

The firm expands the connector supply network when development and sales of plug in hybrid vehicle and electric vehicle increase in Japan, Europe and USA. The firm, which already has the production bases in Shizuoka and Mexico, starts the production in Europe and China. The firm procures the parts and materials from local suppliers to supply the connectors with local standards.

The firm already secures order the charging cable with CCID for plug in hybrid vehicle and electric vehicle from Ford Motor. The volume is apparently monthly several thousands of units.

The firm launches redesigned connectors with better handling performance in 2012 while the firm realized major cost reduction for the connectors. The firm tries to expand production and sales of the connector units with CCID and control box.
