Sumitomo Chemical to Produce Aluminum Titanate DPF in Poland

Sumitomo Chemical announced on Monday the firm decided to start commercial production of proprietary aluminum titanate diesel particulate filter (DPF) at Sumika Ceramics Poland, Sumitomo Chemical’s 100% subsidiary established in Poland in September 2011. DPF is used for filtering soot from exhaust of vehicles with diesel engines. The productive operation is scheduled to commence in 3Q 2013.

In Europe, the very strict gas emission control named Euro6 will be implemented in 2014. All vehicles with diesel engines will be obliged to apply DPF and DPF adoption is forecasted to enlarge over commercial cars and off-road cars.

Sumitomo Chemical has appealed advantages of its aluminum titanate DPF such for critical soot deposition amounts and thermal shock resistance compared with currently major silicon carbide based DPF. The firm started construction of a mother factory for aluminum titanate DPF with output capacity at 170,000 units per year inside Ehime plant, Japan in March 2011.
