Nippon Steel Engineering Opens US Office for Quake Resistance Items

Nippon Steel Engineering announced on Monday the firm started operation of new North American subsidiary, Nippon Steel Engineering USA in San Mateo, California. The wholly owned subsidiary with around 66 million yen of capital will expand the local business for base isolation and vibration control engineering when the building demand increases in USA.

US demand for earthquake resistant building increases mainly in West Coast. Nippon Steel Engineering developed the market for the earthquake resistant products of unbonded brace in North America.

The firm proved the effect of the base isolation and vibration control engineering technology in the major earthquake in March. The firm tries to spread the technology developed in earthquake zone of Japan to offshore market for better safety for human life.

The unbonded brace is to fix core steel plate by steel pipe and concrete for stable plasticity instead of buckling during major earthquake. The product separates core steel plate from pipe and concrete to prevent transmission of force. With the structure, the product can be used for high performance structure element for earthquake resistance.
