JFE Steel Increases Production Ratio of High Tensile Plate to 70%

JFE Steel achieved production ratio of high tensile plate to 70% in Keihin area of East Japan iron works when the firm was investing for improving quality. The works will improve quality of plate for shipbuilding, construction machinery and building material. Plate plant of Keihin area is in full operation at about 150,000 tonnes per month.

Plate plant has rational layout for environment and automation, has only heat furnace which can anneal plate for the size with maximum 5,300 millimeters width and can produce for high value added plate, high tensile plate. The plate mill can produce plate for the size with 4.5-360 millimeters thick and 1,000-5,300 millimeters width.

The plate mill installed cooling machine for increasing performance of plate, and kept pace users’ needs for high quality products and increased the production ration of high tensile plate from 60% step by step.

New cooling machine, Super CR, was installed at 1.5 billion yen, was set near finished rolling mill and cools plate in rolling by water and increases rolling efficiency of high tensile plate by 20%. The firm is using Super CR for development of new plate with Super OLAC which is accelerating cooling machine.

On the other hand, the firm enhanced no.1 heating furnace and increased production of heated plate to 15,000 tonnes per month from 10,000 tonnes for high tensile plate for construction machinery or abrasion resistant plate and maintains stable production.

The firm installed new production system for LP plate which reduces environmental load for shipbuilding and bridge in Keihin area, and increased total production capacity of LP plate by double to over 10,000 tonnes per month.
