Sumitomo Light Metal, Constellium Start Study for Joint Work

Sumitomo Light Metal Industries and Sumitomo Corporation announced on Thursday they agreed with European rolled aluminium major, Constellium’s specialty sheet unit to start study for cooperation in rolled aluminium business. They try to build cooperation projects in various areas including automobile industry to meet growing demand.

They talk details on each part the cooperation. Paris based Constellium with 9,500 of employees posted US$ 4.4 billion of sales in 2010. The firm has bases in 26 countries and sales network in 60 countries. The largest specialty sheet unit posted US$ 1.8 billion yen of sales.

US fund, Apollo Management purchased controlling share of airplane and automobile unit of Alcan Engineered Products from Rio Tinto in January. The unit renamed into Constellium to continues the aluminium business.

The firm has 4 units including Global Aerospace, Transportation and Industry mainly for plate products, Specialty Sheet mainly for can materials, Extrusions and Automotive Structures and Alcan International Network for international trade.
