Thai Flood Continues to Impact Japanese Nonferrous Companies

Japanese nonferrous metal companies are continuously suffered from flood in Thailand. Fujikura announced on Tuesday four plants of Fujikura’s three subsidiaries in Thailand have suspended operations due to immersion. Mitsubishi Materials revealed two subsidiary plants in Bang Pa In industrial estate are suspended. Ahresty also announced on Tuesday the subsidiary in High-Tech industrial estate has been immersed and stopped operation.

Fujikura Group’s four plants are immersed, those which are a flexible printed circuit (FPC) plant in Rojana industrial estate, Ayutthaya Province, thermal component plants in Rojana industrial estate and High-Tech industrial estate, and an electronic wire plant in Saharattananakorn industrial estate.

Other two plants in Navanakorn industrial estate for electronic wire, thermal components, FPCs, metal molds and connectors haven’t been immersed but the operations are suspended for human and asset safety. Other two electronic material plants in Lampoon Province and Prachinburi Province keep normal production while confused supply chains may affect the operations.

Mitsubishi Material’s two plants in Bang Pa In industrial estate produces cemented carbide tools and construction tools. Bang Pa In industrial estate is immersed and staffs cannot enter these plants. Ahresty’s subsidiary has suspended operation since October 7. The plant has been immersed since October 14 and water height reached 2 meters as of October 17. They cannot confirm damages on factory buildings and facilities.
