Nucor Promotes Cross-Item Sales Activities

Nucor Corporation, American major steel maker, started new sales actions to strengthen relationship with users. Nucor promotes mutual sales activities among major steel items though the activities were separated by items such as steel sheet or steel bar so far. Nucor aims to expand sales chances by following users’ requests sensitively. The firm continues cost reduction efforts and new product development at the same time and improves profitability.

Mr. Daniel Dimicco. chairman and CEO of Nucor, attended World Steel Association’s annual conference in Paris and explained about Nucor’s new program named Commercial Excellence Program, including mutual sales actions.

Nucor has 23 works and 160 equipments. Each works had focused on its dedicated items so far and Nucor’s productivity had been highly appreciated. However, the firm now recognizes necessity to enhance collaborative sales activities by items and utilize its strength as a total steel maker with various steel products. Mr. John Ferriola, president and COO of Nucor, said each sales person would widen and deepen knowledge about Nucor’s all steel products and appeal the items totally to users.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dimicco explained construction of no.1 directed reduction iron (DRI) works has steadily progressed and construction of no.2 DRI might start before completion of no.1 DRI works. If the market condition improves, he said, the firm examines installment of steel making processes. He said two Castrip facilities are smoothly operated without any technical troubles. Two Castrip’s current output is 400,000 tonnes per year, near full capacity, according to Mr. Ferriola.
