Japan Copper Scrap Market Price Totally Downs by 15-16 Yen/kg

Copper scrap market price downed by 15-16 yen per kilogram for all items around Tokyo and Osaka on Tuesday when JX Nippon Mining & Metals revised down its electrolytic copper ingot price, the domestic market indicator, by 20,000 yen to 730,000 yen per tonne. The market tone weakened along the indicator’s downturn. Scrap dealers returned into wait-and-see mood.

Around Tokyo, market price of copper based scrap downed by 16 yen. The market price became 660-665 yen per kg for no.1 copper wire, 630-640 yen for no.1 heavy copper, 575-585 yen for no.2 heavy copper and 540-550 yen for other copper scrap with more than 95% copper content.

One scrap dealer said they won’t pay above 665 yen for no.1 copper wire even for a large-lot sales offer. No.2 heavy copper price represents relatively high thanks to the strong demand from ingot makers and copper alloy fabricators.

Brass based scrap market price also lowered by 16 yen along Nippon Shindo’s purchasing price down for brass turning scrap, the market indicator. The market price downed to 455-465 yen for new cutting brass scrap and 425-435 yen for brass turning scrap around Tokyo. Both scrap demand and generation maintain stagnant. Many scrap dealers are negative to approve high offer price.

Around Osaka, market price downed by 16 yen for both copper and brass based scrap. No.1 copper wire market price became 650-660 yen, the level as low as the beginning of this month. No.1 heavy copper market price was 630-640 yen and no.2 heavy copper was 550-570 yen. Other copper scrap with more than 95% copper content was 520-540 yen. New cutting brass scrap was 455-470 yen while brass turning scrap was 400-425 yen.
