Mitsubishi Corp to Develop Bauxite in Guinea

Mitsubishi Corporation starts exploration and development of bauxite, raw material for aluminium, in Guinea, West Africa. The trading house acquired the exclusive license from Ministry of Mines and Geology of Guinea at the end of 2005 for 3-year exploration of 2 mine sites, Lelouma and Batafong. Mitsubishi Corp will start exploration in April 2006.Guinea has one third of worldwide bauxite reserves. Mitsubishi Corp is involved in Mozal project, the aluminium smelting JV in Mozambique, South Africa. Mitsubishi Corp aims to establish integrated aluminium production system from bauxite to aluminium ingot. The firm also plans to produce alumina in Guinea in order to supply for the smelter in Mozambique and to sell other users.
