Japan Wire Rod Import Price Keeps Lower

Japanese import price of carbon steel wire rod keeps the low level in US dollar. The price hit US$ 385 per tonne for the largest volume item of product with more than 6 millimeters of diameter in August 2005 after the price decreased from the peak of US$ 458 in June 2005, according to Ministry of Finance. The lower price of commodity grade products in China apparently reduced Japanese import price. Japanese import price was flat after September keeping less than US$ 400. The import of carbon steel wire rod increased due to the lower price than the domestic price. The import price is estimated to be 15,000 yen per tonne lower than the domestic price. The import is likely to keep the higher volume as long as the price keeps lower.
