Firm Price of Industrial Electric Cable in Tokyo

The market price of industrial electric cable increases in Tokyo for CV (cross-linked polyethylene insulated vinyl sheathed) cable, IV (vinyl insulated internal) cable and CVV (vinyl-sheathed insulated control) cable thanks to the rebound of Japanese official copper ingot price. The market price of VVF (vinyl insulated vinyl sheathed flat-type) cable is relatively weak under the influence of decline of the official copper price in June. The price is around 1,400 yen per meter of cut length for 3-core 600 volt CVT (triplex type of CV) cable with 38 square millimeters of copper cross section and around 48 yen per meter for 2-core 600V VVF cable with 1.6 mm diameter. The spot market finally accepted the higher price last week after wholesalers of industrial cable try to increase the reselling prices to the level based on 890,000 yen per tonne of copper price. The wholesalers would seek 910,000 yen copper based prices if Japanese official copper price would not be revised down this week. Current spot demand is weak in the market. However, the dealers expect the spot demand could recover in July when the seasonal demand usually occurs every year.As to VVF cable, Japanese major makers announced at the end of May to raise their selling prices to 50 yen per meter at minimum for 2-core 600V VVF cable with 1.6 mm diameter. However, the makers could not achieve the price hike when Japanese official copper price continued to decline in June. The market price is around 48 yen at present. Dealer source said they aim to sustain the level at 45 yen at least. The market price might recover 50 yen again if the official copper price stays above 900,000 yen per tonne for a while.
