Japan Electric Wire and Cable Shipment Increases in May

Japanese shipment of copper electric wire and cable increased by 5.4% to 66,639 tonnes of copper in May from a year earlier, increasing for 14 straight months, according to the research by Japanese Electric Wire & Cable Makers’ Association for Japanese 140 electric wire and cable makers. The shipment especially increased for power companies, electric contractors and wholesalers. The shipment of optical fiber and cable was 2.115 million kilometers core in May, increasing from a year earlier for 13 months in a row thanks to the firm demand for optical network to household.The association also announced Japanese annual export of copper wire and cable increased by 16% to 199.883 billion yen in fiscal 2005 ended March 2006 from the previous year. The value reached the high level next to 210-220 billion yen in fiscal 1981-1982 with the export increase for electric power infrastructure projects in Middle East and for electric appliances. Japanese import of copper wire and cable increased by 25% to 408.122 billion yen in fiscal 2005 from fiscal 2004. The value hit the record due to the increase of out-in products.
