Japan Steel Sheet Import Increases by 7.8% in June

Japanese steel sheet import increased by 7.8% to 237,651 tonnes in June from the previous month, increasing for 2 consecutive months. The hot-rolled steel sheet increased by 15.3% and the galvanized sheet by 30.9%. Especially the hot-rolled products import from China increased by about 5.7 times. Some sources pointed out that the impact of the increased production by Chinese makers is gradually spreading while the import volume is not large yet. The import increased by 15.3% to 133,132 tonnes for hot-rolled steel sheet in June from the previous month and by 30.9% to 30,158 tonnes for zinc coated steel sheet, while which decreased by 9.1% to 74,361 tonnes for cold-rolled steel sheet. The import increased by 2.1% to 142,458 tonnes from South Korea and by about 5.3 times to 20,044 tonnes from China, while which decreased by 10% to 68,592 tonnes from Taiwan.
