Industrial Electric Cable Price Keeps Flat in Tokyo

The market price of industrial electric cable keeps flat in Tokyo. The price is around 1,480-1,490 yen per meter of cut length for 3-core 600 volt CVT (triplex type of cross-linked polyethylene insulated and vinyl sheathed cable) with 38 square millimeters of copper cross section and around 48 yen per meter for 2-core 600V VVF (vinyl insulated vinyl sheathed flat-type cable) with 1.6 mm diameter.

The market price kept the level last week with fewer orders from secondary wholesalers before summer holidays in mid August and no revision of Japanese official copper ingot price.

Some dealer source said the trading became relatively active after the weather turned to the recovery at the end of July and some source said the trading maintained slow even in August. Most dealers feel the shipment is still lower than usual summer, when secondary wholesalers keep less purchasing due to higher copper price.

Japanese electric cable makers seem to offer the dealers the price hike for shipment in September. The makers would be suffered from much higher cost price for copper if the copper price stays at the present level through August. The makers could raise their selling prices to 50 yen per meter again for 2-core 600V VVF with 1.6 mm diameter.
