Aluminium Can Scrap Price Keeps Flat in Tokyo

The market price keeps flat for soft pressed aluminium can scrap in Tokyo. The purchase price by alloyed aluminium makers is around 175 yen per kilogram. Aluminium can demand is recovering at present, though the demand was slow due to long rainy season before summer. There is constant generation of aluminium can scrap in the demand season and the alloyed aluminium makers hold enough material inventories at present.

Primary aluminium ingot price at London Metal Exchange recovered to over US$ 2,500 per tonne for both spot and future prices. However, the increasing range was small and Japanese domestic price for primary aluminium also increased slightly. LME aluminium price is likely to maintain flat at around US$ 2,500 for a while. Scrap dealers are watching how the overseas market fluctuates after Japanese summer holidays in mid August.

Japanese alloyed aluminium makers are in summer holidays at present. There is no factor to impact the market conditions then. The makers seem to sustain the present purchasing stances if the current market situation continues including firm demand for alloyed aluminium, the present inventory level of aluminium scrap in the market and the slight fluctuation of the overseas primary aluminium market.
