Japan Steel Order Rises by 5.2% in June

Japanese steel makers’ order receipt increased by 5.2% to 6.587 million tonnes for carbon steel products in June from a year earlier, announced by Japan Iron and Steel Federation on Monday. The order receipt increased by 5.5% from domestic buyers and by 4.6% from offshore buyers. The orders from domestic manufacturers increased by 8.8% to 1.944 million tonnes in June from a year earlier. The order increased by 11% to 948,000 tonnes from automobile, by 14.1% to 200,000 tonnes from industrial machinery, by 4.0% to 420,000 tonnes from shipbuilding and by 18.6% from containers. The orders from construction industry increased by 5.5% to 1.179 million tonnes in June from a year earlier. The order increased by 10.2% from buildings while the order decreased by 0.5% from civil works and by 0.3% from other construction applications. The order from distributors increased by 2.1% to 1.463 million tonnes.
