Japan Aluminium Products Shipment Keeps Firm in May

Japanese domestic shipment of rolled aluminium products for electric and telecommunication appliances increased by 6.9% to 19,773 tonnes in May from a year ago, increasing for 6 months in a row, according to Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The shipment maintained brisk thanks to the recovery of information technology related demand.The shipment volume increased in May from a year ago for all usage fields other than electric wire. The shipment of aluminium rolled products increased for plate, extrusion and foil. Especially the extrusion increased by more than 10% and the foil by 7% mainly for capacitors. Japanese major aluminium rerollers indicated the demand for electric appliances seemed to continue recovering. Aluminium shipment is likely to maintain active for a while.
