Japan Official Copper Price Approaches 1 Million Yen/t Again

Nippon Mining & Metals announced on Tuesday the firm decreased official copper ingot price by 40,000 yen to 940,000 yen per tonne for domestic shipment in September. The price was revised up by 40,000 yen on September 6 but returned to 940,000 yen again due to the plunge of overseas copper markets. The monthly averaged price became to 948,000 yen.Japanese smelters’ breakeven point with imported copper ore is estimated to be over 930,000 yen per tonne including 43,000 yen of premium and other charge based on NY kerb on Monday, which represented US$ 7,480 per tonne at LME cash price. The estimated ingot price is still 10,000 yen lower from Japanese latest official price.
