POSCO to Launch Automotive Steel Processing Center in Yokohama

POSCO of South Korea builds new automotive flat steel processing center in Honmoku, Yokohama. The firm sets 2 slitters in leased warehouse starting operation in 2007. The firm improves the customer service by controlling process and delivery to meet demand of automakers though the firm has contacted out the process to third party processors. The firm establishes the operating firm, POS-YPC with 500 million yen of capital in the month as POSCO Japan’s subsidiary. The firm invests 550 million yen for the processing facilities with annual 80,000 tonnes of processing capacity in the 14,500 square meters floor space warehouse with 20,000 tonnes of deposit capacity. The firm will operate the center at around 60,000 tonnes per year at the first stage. The center is second processing base of automotive grade flat steel for POSCO after POS-NPC in Toyohashi, which started operation in February. The firm tries to build up processing and supply network worldwide to improve customer service in order to shift to high valued steel products. The firm builds new centers in India, Thailand and Mexico to control process and delivery for better quality.
