Japan Ferrous Scrap Export Increases in August

Japanese ferrous scrap export increased to 734,000 tonnes in August 2006 over the last month, which third level in monthly. However, the export decreased from a month ago for South Korea and Taiwan, while broke at 70,000 tonnes for 2 consecutive months. The export increased by 4.6% to 5.298 million tonnes in January-August 2006 from same period of 2005, according to Ministry of Finance. The export is continuing high pace at 8 million tonnes per year that the export could exceed higher record at 7.585 million tonnes. The export increased by 1.9% from a month ago and by 9.2% from a year ago, which the export for South Korea increased for 3 months from a year ago, and which for Taiwan increased for 6 months. The export for China decreased by over 100,000 tonnes, while increased from last year, and was high-record in this year, and exceeded for South Korea since February 2006. The export to South Korea decreased to 245,000 tonnes by 11.6% from a month ago and increased by 90.7% from a year ago. The export to China increased to 282,000 tonnes by 4.8% from a month ago, while decreased by 30.3% from a year ago, and decreased for 3 months. The export to Taiwan decreased to 145,000 tonnes by 5.5% from a month ago, while increased by 13.9% from a year ago, and is continuing at 100,000 tonnes per month after March 2006. The export to other country increased to 69,000 tonnes by 137.9% from a month ago and by 280.9% from a year ago.
