Japan Stainless Scrap Export Jumps by 33.5% in September

Japanese stainless scrap export decreased by 33.5% to 19,160 tonnes in September from 29,510 tonnes in August, according to Ministry of Finance. The volume increased by 53% from 12,820 tonnes in a year earlier. Despite of the 10,000 tonnes drop from August, the export reached 213,590 tonnes in January-September. The annual export is expected to exceed record 217,980 tonnes in 2004. The export increased by 20.8% to 12,180 tonnes for South Korea in September from 10,080 tonnes in September 2005, which increased for 4 months in a row. The volume decreased by 32.2% from 17,960 tonnes in August. The export also increased by 133.1% to 6,060 tonnes for China in September from 2,600 tonnes a year earlier, which increased for 9 months in a row, though the volume decreased by 56.1% from 10,810 tonnes in August. Japanese stainless scrap export increases and the export to China represented 30% in January-September compared with 16% in full year 2005.
