Nippon Steel Raises Tinplate Export Price by US$30-40/t

Nippon Steel said on Monday the firm got US$ 30-40 per tonne of higher export price for tinplate to Southeast Asia in October-December. The firm tries to increase the price by several tens of dollars at coming negotiation in mid-November for January-March shipment. The firm sought around US$ 50 per tonne of hike to cover higher cost for tin under tight supply for high valued steel products. The firm finally got higher price when Asian tinplate market price increases slightly in October-December despite of resistance by the users including food can makers.
