Showa Denko’s New HD Plant Starts Operation in Singapore

Showa Denko announced on Thursday its new plant for hard disc (HD) media in Singapore started operation. The firm installed the first productive line within a clean room which applies to perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology and started production of aluminium and glass HD.

The new plant is the 4th HD media plant for Showa Denko, following the existent plants in Singapore, Chiba Prefecture of Japan and Taiwan.The plant will enter full operation in early 2007. Showa Denko plans to expand output capacity step by step along demand conditions at the new plant.

Total HD output capacity of Showa Denko Group will increase by more than 50% to 24 million disks per month by the end of 2008 from current 15.75 million disks per month with 60 billion yen of total investment.
