Sumitomo Metal Mining Resumes Normal Operation at Pogo Gold Mine

Sumitomo Metal Mining and Sumitomo Corporation announced on Wednesday Pogo gold mine in Alaska resumed the normal operation. They finished the restoration works after the mine stopped ore treatment facility due to electricity supply accident on October 19.

The mine restarted the underground mining operation and construction works with portable generators on October 28. After the resumption of electricity supply by December 6, ore treatment facility started the operations step by step since December 14 resuming normal operation.

The mine is the first major controlling offshore project for Sumitomo Metal Mining with 51% of share. Teck Cominco has 40% interest in the mine and Sumitomo Corp. has 9%. The mine with 152 tonnes of reserve will produce around 12 tonnes per year of gold at full capacity base.
