Nexans Selected as Sole Cable Supplier by Japan 2 Shipbuilders

Nexans, a worldwide electric wire and cable maker based in Paris, France, announced on Thursday the firm was selected as an exclusive supplier of JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) type shipboard cables by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Ishikawajima Harima Industries (IHI). Kukdong Electric Wire, Nexans’ affiliate maker in South Korea, will produce and supply shipboard cables. The 2 frame contracts are worth a total of around 16 million Euro.Nexans announced the firm agreed with MHI for 3-year frame contract worth approximately 11 million Euro. Kukdong will supply JIS type power, control and communication shipboard cables to Nagasaki, Kobe and Shimonoseki shipyards of MHI for installation on 23 vessels. The cables will be delivered from June 2007 to October 2009.For IHI, Nexans signed 1-year frame agreement worth around 5 million Euro. Kukdong will supply shipboard cables to Kure and Yokohama shipyards of IHI for 16 vessels from March 2007 to March 2008.
